Two outta three ain't bad - unless you got two and
the other guy got three. That's what it's gonna be
come this weekend when the 2006 HLB King will be crowned.
HLB HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
You have to wonder how either of these teams made it
this far with the kind of pitching performances they
gave in game four. Constant Control's Jason Jenning
had a stinky two-buck WHIP over five - but Hollywood
Henchmen's Jason Schmidt & Brad Lidge tossed an
even uglier 2.11 tally. Matt Holliday had a really
nice game with three runs, two ribbies, one double,
and one homer. Too bad no one else on Constant's roster
except Utley got another extra base hit. As for Henchmen,
he got a monster game from Garrett Atkins - three runs
and four RBIs on four hits including a 3B & HR.
That, combinedwith a little help from Berkman and Estrada,
gave Henchmen the 12-8 decision and let them play another
day. (Series tied 2-2.)
HLB HEAVYWEIGHT RUNNER-UPS
Yes, a 6-3 loss by FON proves that it may well be a
curse to finish first in the regular season. Clutchmen
got the W with Tommy Glavine and his relievers besting
Brett Myers and his. Although C-Men got marginal output
in the box from all comers except X-Man Nady & Jose
Reyes, FON got even less from all swingers except Yankee
Abreu. (Clutchmen win series 3-1.)
HLB LIGHTWEIGHT CONSOLATION
Our last installment of this series featured WAT Guys?
The Rocket vs. NSB's Chris Carpenter. Well, this time
The Rocket vs. Ben Sheets met to yield the same result.
The crustry 'Stro bested the injury-plagued (overpriced?)
Brewer 1.00 to 1.83 WHIP. That proved too be too much
of a difference for NSB to overcome. Use the Force
Luke Scott led the way in an offensive surge for NSB
that actually beat out that of Cameron, Rollins, and
the rest of the Guys. But all that counts is what the
scoreboard showed at the end: The Guys 11, NSB 7. (WAT
Guys? wins series 3-1.)
Two down, one to go. Let's make it a good one.
